What to Wear for Your Photo Session (Little Rock Edition)
"What should I wear?" is the single most common question I get before a session, and it makes sense, your outfit does a lot of work in how a photo feels. Here's the actual, practical breakdown, tailored to shooting around Little Rock specifically.
Stick to solid colors over busy patterns
Small patterns, tight stripes, and busy logos tend to distract from your face and can look strange once compressed into a photo. Solid colors and simple textures (knits, linen, denim) photograph more cleanly and age better in photos you'll look back on in five years.
Coordinate, don't match, for group or duos sessions
If it's a couple, family, or friend session, pick 2–3 complementary colors across everyone rather than identical outfits. Matching head-to-toe tends to look stiff on camera; coordinated colors look intentional without looking staged.
Think about your location before you pick your outfit
Shooting in SoMa or downtown Little Rock? Muted, richer tones (olive, rust, navy, cream) tend to hold up well against brick and concrete. Heading to a park or The Heights? Lighter, softer colors tend to photograph well against greenery. Doing a coffee shop or bookstore session? Warmer tones and layered textures (a cardigan, a scarf) add depth indoors.
Bring a backup outfit if you're not sure
If your session includes an outfit change (most of mine do, up to 2 for portraits), bring options and we'll decide once we see how the light looks at your location that day.
A few small things people forget
Iron or steam wrinkle-prone fabrics the night before.
Bring a lint roller, especially with pets at home.
Fresh white sneakers or well-kept shoes matter more than people expect, feet end up in more shots than you'd think.
If hair and makeup matter to you, plan to finish getting ready about 30 minutes before we start, so nothing feels rushed.
